Window World of Central Alabama Sponsors Mission for Veterans Airlift Command

Wounded veteran and family will be flown from Jacksonville, North Carolina to Birmingham, Alabama

Veteran's Airlift CommandBIRMINGHAM, A.L. – Local store owners Michael and Melissa Edwards of Window World of Central Alabama will sponsor a mission for the Veterans Airlift Command (VAC) on June 14. A wounded U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant and his four family members will travel from Jacksonville, North Carolina to Birmingham, Alabama. Funding for the Sergeant’s flight will be provided by the Window World of Central Alabama.

The U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant, Adam Jacks, is the squad leader with Lima Company, Battalion Landing Team 3/8 of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. It was on April 3, 2011 when he stepped on a PPIED and was injured. As a result, Sergeant Jacks lost his left leg above the knee in addition to shrapnel to his other leg.

Sergeant Jacks claims “where the shrapnel blew through my leg…probably the worst pain of my life.” He was awarded the Purple Heart for the wounds he received on April 3, along with the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device (Valor). The organization, Team Red White and Blue, will hold a large honorary ceremony for Sergeant Jacks and his family on June 15th in Birmingham.

The VAC is a non-profit organization that helps wounded veterans and their families by providing free air transportation through a network of volunteer pilots and aircraft owners. To date, Window World Inc. has supported more than 40 missions for veterans for the VAC. Sergeant Jacks mission was sponsored specifically by Central Alabama Window World store owners, Michael and Melissa Edwards.

“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to help Sergeant Jacks. It’s an honor to help support those that serve our country,” declared Edwards. “Our entire organization is proud to give back and show our respect to those who have sacrificed so much.”
